ABSTRACT PAINTINGS AND COLLAGES

THE ALLEY MURAL

WELCOME TO THE ALLEY MURAL COMMUNITY!  EACH OF THE 24 INDIVIDUAL PAINTINGS BELOW IS PART OF ONE LARGE (6' X 8') MURAL.  THIS PAINTING IS ABOUT A FEW THINGS FOR ME;

1. The challenge of creating on cohesive mural and 24 individual pieces that can stand independent from the whole.

2. Trying to represent the spirit of Denver, my home, that I have known and loved my entire life.

3. Creating something that could possibly, even on a very small scale, connect people.  If you purchase one (or more) of the 24 paintings that make up the Alley Mural, you become a part of it's community and continuation.  As each individual piece sells, I will create a completely new piece in its place - the entire mural will continue to evolve (as Denver does) and community will continue to grow.

PROGRESSION?

This group of paintings is sort of a progression, or perhaps and continuation of experimentation.

small series

I created these is sets of 2-6 at one time.  Each set has something in common but aside from the common element, each piece is completely independent from the others in the set.  Sets could be based on a style of composition, a color, a grid pattern, material, etc.  Some of these pieces later became materials for my collages.

collages

My collages, with the exception of "redline collage" are made entirely from parts of my own paintings and drawings.

attempted simplification

Compared to most of my paintings, these are simpler.  It's really challenging for me to try to simplify while still keeping things interesting and energetic.

BWYB

This were all painted from a limited palette, starting with only black, white and indian yellow.  Some of the paintings include one other color - either thalo blue or alizarin.
